New research shows rental relationships are a tale of two halves
Is yours a match made in heaven or more like the "couples" below?
Love stories often come from the most unexpected places, and it turns out that cupid's worked his magic on landlords and tenants. A whopping 75% of renters dig their landlords – and guess what? The feeling's mutual!

Who would have thought that all it took was a bit of communication to get both sides writing sonnets to each other? Fifty-eight per cent of tenants cited communication as the reason behind their excellent relationships with landlords. While 59% of landlords feel exactly the same way.

We also found that 87% of tenants stay in their rental home for up to five years, and transparency with their landlords was a major contributing factor. This is further backed up by the fact that 75% of unhappy renters said a lack of communication was the reason for their lovers' tiff with their landlords.

It's one of the reasons why we launched our new counselling campaign, where we've taken a tongue-in-cheek approach to the landlord-tenant relationship, revealing some of the issues faced when there's not much dialogue between the two.

Case study #1
Fredrick & Nora
Forty-two per cent of tenants favoured a landlord who allowed pets. It's just a shame that this tenant didn't realise her landlord loves little feathery friends.
Case study #2
Jasmine & Chanel
Sometimes a love-hate relationship is unavoidable… or is it?
Case study #3
Hugo & Jim
Background checks, property insurance – it's all part and parcel of the renting process. Still, someone could've told Jim beforehand.
Case study #4
Elaine & Henry
Thirty-six per cent of renters had problems with their tenancy when an agent managed the home. Sometimes it's better to work together instead – just ask Elaine and Henry.
Case study #5
Martin & Ollie
Forty-five per cent of renters love a landlord who's quick to fix repairs. So don't get caught slacking like this one with his, erm, 8-inch pipe.
